proper mixed bag this one soothing, grinding, banging, and disturbing! new york city by way of miami, alex suarez delivers his debut lp the eight track autogolpe for l.i.e.s. autogolpe, is a term for military coup initiated by a dictator to take control of an existing government and suarez uses this loose idea to create the sonic equivialent of the pain, strife, oppression, isolation, and joyous freedom associated with said act. musically he expands on his prior releases for bank and primitive languages as heavy industrialized sonic beatings sit next to somber passages, oil drum slow beat tribal clangers provide a back drop for screams shooting out of the dark. musically it paints a distorted picture of world in decline, an exile from another land and arrivial to anothers in chaos or the clinging hope of something better on the other side.

rube goldberg series returns, once again leaving the production duties in very capable hands. the music, intricately complex in its creation ultimately performs a simple task, much like the machines of the late r. goldberg.

another fierce and unique act from the depths of the glasgow underground appear on optimo music with their debut green door studios recorded four track ep. keyboard player jim mckinven was previously in altered images, worked for many years in martin rushent s genetic studios, was in one dove and previously appeared on optimo music as one half of organs of love. he is however but one component of this transgenerational band. they describe their music far better than we could - “seedy electronica, consisting of 2 basses, electronic drums, synths and dark vocals. inspired by the avant-garde that influenced the electronic music scene of the late 70’s and early 80’s.”

roza terenzi is the latest convert to the kalahari oyster cult, the australian producer debuts with four tracks showcasing her unique sound. influences come from far and wide, shifting between electro, house, techno and even early rave anthems. the space bleeps of -gigi- are soon interrupted by shouldering kick drums. samples stagger and stumble before key stabs cut through beats in this hazy piece of early morning elation. -mwah- maintains those euphoric moods. snapping snares slice through shimmering synthwork and soaring strings to keep the night grooving. darker tones enter with -rare high-, but these shades are soon brightened by arcing notes. acid lines squeak and squirm in this balancing act of disparate colours and chords. distant lands and exotic encounters are conjured for -soft-, perfumed percussion and meandering melodies mingle and merge for head swimming close of aromatic audio.

wonderful 70s work from tom ze! the record’s a bit more straightforward than some of his other records from the decade, and has a number of tracks with a samba sound at the base – but there’s more than enough fantastic material to keep the record fresh, and tom’s writing is as great as ever. there’s a vocal group that sings with ze on many of the tracks on the record – but they also seem to sometimes act as a greek chorus, in response to breakaway vocal passages that are dominated by ze. includes the excellent baroque funky number “dor e dor”, plus the tracks “sonho colorido de um pintor”, “a baba”, “o sandalo”, “a briga do edificio italia com o hilton hotel”, and “happy end”. pressing on 180 gram vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.

part of the current crop of artists spearheading the uk acid revival, posthuman s output has evolved over the years, encompassing many genres & styles from their early electronica releases, to their later acid & slow-mo techno. their debut release in 2000 was a series of hand made cds simply called -posthuman- (though better known by the colour of the card inserts grey, black, blue and brown). the duo then went on to host a number of parties in an abandoned underground train station in london between 2001 and 2004, and founded their own label seed records (2) with which they released 3 albums and several other releases of their own and other artists material. they also were the first act on manchester based imprint skam s smak sublabel. doherty left seed records to help relaunch uk techno imprint b12 records in 2006, and started a new label balkan vinyl in 2010. in 2007, doherty founded london-based acid house retrospective clubnight i love acid- where posthuman are monthly resident djs. in 2014 the clubnight launched a vinyl-only label of the same name. he also performs as agt rave cru and as one half of altern 8 live shows since 2015.

beginning in the early 90s, emmanuel top became france s first techno superstar, even if his popularity was greater in countries like germany and england than his own. he released a multitude of 12inches on the attack label la pipe a eau, krankenhaus, ecsta-deal, stress, turkish bazar, and many more many of which are compiled on the triple-disc release collection from 1995. top s next step took him to nova mute alongside heavyweights like plastikman. in addition to his solo work, top also collaborated with bruno sanchioni and bruno quartier in the mid to late 90s as the trance act b.b.e. (seven days and one week) and also as age of love (the original age of love).

nadanna proudly presents its new project, the canadian synthpop act techniques berlin! formed in 1984 by high school buddies andreas gregor and david rout, the band started experimenting with synthesizers, drum machines and guitars. in the early stages, techniques berlin was heavily influenced by uk new romantic acts like japan, spandau ballet, visage, the human league, orchestral manoeuvres in the dark, yazoo and depeche mode as well as rising canadian synthpop bands rational youth (dave became a member in 1998/99), men without hats and trans-x. it took them a few years to master their electronic toys and create a unique blend of addictive electropop melodies and beautifully crafted alternative beats.

if youre familiar with public release’s sibling, face, a series of parties, you’ll already know that jee day, né dennis mcnany, has been in the bay area label’s orbit for some time as half of the dfa act museum of love, he joined the inner circle years ago. here, with amot herga laxy, he makes his bold debut on public release itself. the single begins with “crocodile tears,” an abstract, impressionistic tapestry of african rhythms, meditative synth washes, vangelis-esque horns and pads. it recedes and jee day plunges deeper into the jungle with communication masterbation, a propulsive number built around a psychedelic, droney bass that’s wrapped with gritty, distorted effects and layers of topline keyboard licks stacked high. a raw club track cut from transcendentalist cloth thatll lift you off the dance floor. the b-side is a dub of communication masterbation, with an emphasis being placed on pulling out, unraveling, extending the rhythmic elements and emphasizing the electronic veil the piece is shrouded in. a trancey, menacing sprawl that could be an extended sonic youth live jam if they swapped their stringed instruments for roland and korg gear and dusted the whole thing in an unknown psychoactive slime.

having established itself with eps from duke slammer and dmx krew, dublin’s modern magic welcomes bari’s armonics for the label’s third release. a trained pianist and resident dj/curator of the we talk event series in his home city, armonics draws influence from electronic music across the past 40 years: chicago & acid house, italo- & electro-disco, new wave, synth-pop and vaporwave.
his italowave style is a fusion of these retro-futuristic and cosmic styles, forged through armonic’s production processes which include cassette recordings, vintage synths & modern korg/roland gear. the look alive ep is the producer’s second release, following a debut on slow motion in late 2016.
accompanying the ep’s three original tracks is an anthemic, piano-led remix of red eye by international feel act black spuma, aka lauer (tuff city kids/arto mwambe) and fabrizio mammarella (telespazio).

soundscapes key selling points the word icosahedrite refers to the geometric figure icosahedron, and arises from the idea that the ep is an amalgam of electronic music styles with many other aspects of traditional musical genres, like jazz or blues. metaphorically, those genres act as the multiple sides of an imaginary icosahedron. something complex yet solid that sits outside of the conventional emerges as the final result.

during the mid-nineties, david kempston secured himself a considerable following while recording releases for the seminal uk labels clear and evolution/universal language. he went on to produce music under various guises including the solid house sounds of cartel productions and his darker electro alias clatterbox. now its 2011 and time seems right to put out a collection of tracks that we have been sitting on for quite a while. 2 very strong and razor sharp electro tracks of the highest order + the main track desolate void, an experimental drone that comes in various different takes through out the ep for a healthy dose of unpleasant frustrated funk atmosphere. this is the first ff release in a new quality series of limited hand numbered and hand stamped colored vinyl 12 inches. highly limited, so act quick!

following the success of our recent reissues of classic tracks from the vaults team-jalapeno decided to start 2018 strong with another 7inch release of two certified bangers from our very own breaks legends skeewiff. our dear label co-founders and creative minds whose four skeewiff albums set the agenda for the jalapeno funk machine that you know and love alex rizzo and elliot ireland have never been found wanting. these guys are the godfathers of the lounge and breaks scenes, they put the fun into funk, and if rumours are to be believed they could mix before they could walk! from the very first opening horns salvo on mexican flyer you know this track means business. a driving bassline and in-your-face drums provide the backdrop for all sorts of sonic madness with dj cuts, horn solos and breaks galore. it s a bona-fide fiesta that fits neatly in your 45s bag. with this little number in the arsenal the only worry that the djs will have is the stampede to the dancefloor. over on the flipside delta dawn sees the guys get a little help from a famously little lady with one of the most recognisable voices in country music. but make no mistake this is no barn dance… breaks, bass and a healthy dose of hammond wizardry inject the funk into proceedings to complete this 7inch club weapon of mass destruction. it s a double act that s up there with the best of them and a must have for fans of jalapeno and high quality party music

a little over six years ago, let s play house because, in earnest, with a 12-inch called indoor pool. fittingly, the track it revolved around was by runaway, the duo comprised of marcos cabral and jacques renault, and featured remixes by some tight friends of the imprint, beautiful swimmers, slow hands, and soft rocks. we thought it d be fun to celebrate our birthday for once, but not with something too obvious (e.g. a compilation) or too involved (e.g. a warehouse party blowout). what we came up with is this, a 10-inch that reflects a little of the past into the present. appropriately, it includes edits by two of the artists on that debut ep. runaway s is a dusted-off and remixed secret weapon from the act s early days while soft rock s is classic soft rocks, albeit from a more current vintage (it was recorded this year). both absolutely rock. a little twisted, a little tilted, a little tipsy, but, as always, tight and tidy. funny how, since 2009, everything has changed and nothing has changed at all for this label of ours.

what was old is new again. the old adage is so tired that nobody takes its proper measure: all people hear is the word old, when the important one is new. making new things out of old things is an act of alchemy. the proof is in this fifth album no rest for the wicked of perpignan which is blown right open here and there by a few very contemporary guests.

blurt are perhaps the act who have played live at optimo more than any other. active for close to 40 years they are one of the uk’s all time great acts, phenomenal live and on record and supremely underrated. blurt mainman ted milton is a living legend. now in his 70s but more vibrant on stage than most artists 50 years his junior, he is a man of many talents, artist, poet, musician, performer…. in 1984 he released a solo 12”, “love is like a viol&#275,nce”, a no doubt accidental dancefloor gem completely out of kilter with any other music of the era that now makes total sense in 2017. dubbed-out stabs, programmed rhythm, trademark sax squeals and a more subdued than normal vocal that is strangely reminiscent of vincent price. thee definition of a cult classic and much in demand, side a of this 12” presents the a and b side (the equally outre “it’s only recently that stalins have begun to roost”) of this mighty 12” on one side of vinyl.
